Herron attended the University of New Mexico and played on the 1993 United States Walker Cup team before turning professional later that year. In 1995 he played on the Nationwide Tour, and the following season he won for the first time on the PGA Tour at the Honda Classic. He won three times in his first four seasons and won a fourth time in 2006. Tim currently resides in Wayzata Minnesota with his three children.
