• Born in Goldsboro, NC, O’Meara found golf as a solitary escape in California and excelled at Long Beach State University (LBSU).
  • He was an All-American and won the U.S. Amateur, California, and Mexican Amateur titles before turning pro in 1980. 
Professional Career Highlights:
  • PGA Tour: 16 wins, including the 1984 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am multiple times.
  • 1998: The Defining Year: Won the Masters (with a famous putt on 18) and the Open Championship (British Open) at Royal Birkdale, becoming the oldest player to win two majors in one year.
  • World Rankings: Spent nearly 200 weeks in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
  • PGA Tour Champions: Continued success, winning events on the senior tour.
